These DRG files are compressed in .zip format. Use a compression utility such as WinZip to decompress. Each quadrangle is made up of six files - an image file (*.tif), a world file (*.tfw), and four formats of metadata. You should download the world file to the same directory as the image file. The .tif file is an image file that can be opened with most standard image viewers. The world file will be used by ArcView to locate the map on a grid system. The USGS provides a free viewer available for download. These DRG's are available through the generosity of the State Office of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Department of Transportation, and the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. Note: California DRGs are in ALBERS projection. Reprojected DRGs previously offered by the Teale Data Center will now be available here. Generic metadata for California quads is here. |
